Cycle Derby have launched a brand new cycle app which will help to transform cyclist’s commuter and leisure journeys, and to encourage more people to get on their bikes.

The new phone app features a clever route finder, using full HD videos which have been explored, tested and filmed by Cycle Derby, giving cyclists the opportunity to see the route before they cycle, together with direct, traffic free scenic routes, real time weather updates, fitness tracker and more must-have gadgets.

A promotional video has also been produced which demonstrates how the Cycle Derby app works, explaining all it’s best features including the fitness feature, and the intuitive hand-picked locations that pop up on the maps.  The video can be viewed online or by visiting the Cycle Derby website.

The free app is now available to download on the Apple and Google stores.

Connected – the travel initiative which aims to keep Derby moving and encourage more people to choose sustainable travel provided funding for the app, through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, and has been working with Cycle Derby on other projects including the provision of free adult cycle training sessions, and cycle maintenance to encourage more people to get on their bikes.

Mark Smith, Cycle Derby Education, Training & Promotions Co-ordinator said “Cycle Derby is constantly looking at ways to make cycling more accessible.  Thanks to funding from Connected, our latest offer utilises the most up to date technology to make navigating around Derby as easy as possible, at the same time making commuters more aware of where things are and what services they provide”.

Councillor Martin Rawson, Cabinet Member for Planning, Environment and Regeneration said: “Derby already has a very high number of people who cycle around our city and this is a great new resource for them.  The fact that cyclists can see their route before they try will encourage more people to get on their bike, which will inevitably help to reduce congestion and pollution.  I look forward to seeing more people moving around Derby sustainably”.
