Derby University hold an annual ‘Green Week’ to raise awareness about environmental issues and as part of this have one day dedicated solely to promoting sustainable travel. This year it was on Tuesday 12th February and the University asked Connected if we could be there to help out.
The all-day event, held in the Atrium at the Kedleston Road Campus was an exciting mix of demonstrations, competitions and interactive fun. There was a Segway for people to have a (supervised) play on, an electric ‘Twizy’ car from Renault to have a look around and a whole host of other activities for students and staff to get involved in.
Bike Back Derby Previewed
Connected were there offering a first glimpse of our fantastic Bike Back Derby recycled bikes as well as a competition for one lucky person to win one of the bikes.
It was clear from the overall response to the event that many people really are now taking more time to consider their travel options carefully and enthusiastic about travelling sustainably. James Brown, the University’s Transport Manager said:
“Connected provided many students and staff with travel advice. They offered prizes to get people interested… I am also aware that a member of our staff purchased one of the recycled bikes, since which I have seen him riding to work on every day!”
The competition to win the bike was won by Heather Weatherill, who was very excited to be one of the first people in the city to get their hands on a Bike Back Derby bike.
