As part of essential maintenance works by Network Rail to a mainline rail bridge in Derby, part of the cycle and foot path that runs along the edge of Alvaston Park will be closed for around ten weeks from Monday 13th November.

The schedule of works includes repainting the bridge and replacing parts of the steel structure, as well as maintenance works to a gas supply that runs beneath the bridge.

To reduce any disruption a well signed diversion route will be put in place for both pedestrians and cyclists. Further details about the exact route will be made available shortly.

To prevent any contamination or disturbance to the park and the River Derwent, the bridge itself will be fully enclosed throughout the works.

Network rail will also be undertaking consultation with local residents, cycling groups and Friends of Alvaston Park.

The first consultation event will take place at Alvaston Park Community Centre on Thursday (19thOctober) from 4.00pm – 7.00pm.

Councillor Asaf Afzal, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Public commented: “This work is essential to ensuring that Derby continues to have good transport links for people who live in, work in and visit our city. We’ll continue to work closely with Network Rail to reduce any disruption to residents and commuters where we can.”
