Go-Ride Tour in Derby cements legacy of Tour de France

In celebration of the Tour de France visiting our shores, Cycle Derby is hosting a Go-Ride Tour event, to cement the legacy and give young people the chance to get involved with cycle sport.

All youngsters across the area are welcome to turn up and take part in the entry-level event, which will take place on 31st July 2014 between 10.00am & 2.00pm at Cathedral Green Off Silk Mill Lane, Derby, DE1 3AF

The Go-Ride Tour has been co-ordinated by British Cycling, to give local children the opportunity to emulate their cycling heroes and get involved with cycle sport.

All events take place in a fun and safe, traffic-free environment and will be led by club volunteers and coaches trained by British Cycling. On the day, young riders will have the chance to take part in a number of riding sequences, with the best performances winning t-shirts and medals in the colours of the Tour de France jerseys – white, green, yellow and polka dot. Bikes & helmets will be provided, please bring gloves suitable clothing and plenty to drink.

Tracey Fletcher from Cycle Derby is expecting a big turnout for the event. She said: “It’s such an exciting summer for cycling, with the greatest road race in history coming to the UK. We saw from the Olympics that events like this inspire so many young people to get on their bikes and we want to provide an opportunity for them to experience the thrill of cycle sport.

“We look forward to welcoming lots of new riders to our Go-Ride Tour event, which will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year for the club.”

To sign up to take part in the event, please come along on the day to Cathedral Green Off Silk Mill Lane, Derby, DE1 3AF car park available on Full Street Derby

Over 60% of the Great Britain Cycling Team started out at Go-Ride Clubs.

Jason Kenny, a world champion who progressed from a Go-Ride Club, said: “Go-Ride Clubs provide such a great opportunity for kids to get into cycling. It’s unbelievable to hear about all the young people inspired to get involved after watching events on the world stage and clubs are doing brilliantly at harnessing that inspiration.”
