On 17th August 2016, six employees from Connected Business Network Large Employment Site 2016 Award Winners Reckitt Benckiser joined over 27,000 people to participate in one of the UK’s biggest sportives.

Starting out from the Olympic Park and finishing up in The Mall, Team RB-Derby who represent a diverse range of cycling backgrounds completed the 100 mile route and raised £3,592 for Save the Children.

Danny Spooner, a keen Mountain biker, decided to make the transition from mountain to road bike especially for this event.   Pete Lawlor had a hip replacement in September 2015 but was determined to get back in the saddle after his operation and so far this year has lost over 3 and a half stone and cycled more than 5,000 miles!

Reckitt Benckiser’s Cycle to Work Scheme inspired several team members such as Sean Latham to begin cycling and encouraged others members to return to cycling, helping them to lead healthier and fitter lifestyles:

Simon Stanton, (2016 highly commended Connected travel champion)  managed to shed three stones in weight and now regularly participates in sportives.  Steve Gaskin first motivated to start cycling through the scheme now enjoys cycling regularly with his partner and her son and, Glyn Walker who also returned to cycling through the scheme previously took part in the ‘London to Paris in 24 hours’ event where he raised more than £2,000 for the charity SCOPE.
