May is National Walking Month and is the perfect time to get outside and walk, get active, and help improve air quality in your area.  We want to see as many people as possible give walking everyday journeys a go in Derby.

National walking charity Living Streets have launched their #Try20 walking tips to help you find ways to increase your daily step count?  Public Health England has introduced the motivational Active 10 app which will guide you through the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day for an adult, and help you record your steps.

Walk to School Week, 21 – 25 May

Walk to School Week is an annual Living Streets’ challenge and aims to encourage school children and their families to try walking for all or part of the journey to school throughout the week.

With one in four cars on the road at peak times travelling to school, we want to encourage as many families walking as possible this May – reducing congestion, making our roads safer and helping to improve air quality in the city. This is the perfect time to get your children walking.

Join thousands of families across the UK:

  • Cut congestion and improve safety at the school gates
  • Be part of the fight against air pollution
  • Build in a bit more physical activity into your family’s day

If you are a parent and your child is taking part in the challenge, you can make a pledge with Living Streets and enter into prize draw to win £40 shopping vouchers.  We’d also love to see your pictures of you, so post up to our twitter or facebook page using #walkthismay.
